EYC
The EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) is a thriving ministry involving the youth of our parish and community. The path of discipleship in which we follow Jesus is a life-long journey; EYC is a great way to begin or continue on that journey for the youth of St. Francis.
The EYC is group with a strong sense of community, a heart for service and a place for fun to be had by all. Everyone is welcome and hospitality towards guests and new members is something we take seriously. Our time together is often spent deepening our faith, serving others and spending time in Christian fellowship. We generally meet Sunday evenings during the fall and spring semesters at St. Mike’s (a building on our campus).
Please check our calendar for the most up to date events.
Our regular schedule is:
JEYC (6th-8th grades) 5:30-6:30
Dinner for both JEYC and EYC 6:30-7:00
EYC (9th-12th grades) 7:00-8:15

Special Events
Diocesan Events
Participating in Diocesan wide youth events is an important aspect of EYC at St. Francis. In attending these events, we are enriched by what is going on outside of our parish and gives us an opportunity to share God’s love and grace which we find in our own youth program. These events include Fall and Spring Youth Events, Happening and the Outreach Weekend.
Please visit the Diocesan Youth site (http://www.episdioncyouth.org) for more information.
Mission Trip
Each summer the youth of St. Francis works as the hands and feet, the hearts and tongues of God in the world. One of our most anticipated events each year is the mission trip. There is a separate trip for both the middle and high school students. The mission trip is not only a time to serve others, but is a time to reflect upon our faith and grow closer to each other and to God.
For the past several years we have worked with the United Methodist Relief Center in Charleston, South Carolina working on many projects including roofing, paint houses, installing siding, digging foundations and many other home repair projects. It is a time to play hard and to work hard. The youth often comment that though their work is often a blessing to those in need, the experience of the mission trip is a true blessing in their lives as well. Stay tuned for more information about future mission trips.
Fundraising
Though the youths (and their families) and the parish financially support the mission trip and other special youth events, we work throughout the year to generate additional funding. We do this as a way to increase our available funding and to have a greater sense of ownership of the projects we undertake.
2011 Attraction books (those great coupon books that will save you loads of money) are on sale now. The cost is $25 and can be purchased from any of the youth of the parish. Each book a youth sells will directly decrease the cost of the mission trip for them.
Barberito’s is a favorite restaurant in the area and they are generous to assist us with fundraising. When you dine at Barberito’s on the 1st Wednesday of the month, a significant percentage of your check will be donated to our youth program, just mention the St. Francis EYC when you order. Barberito’s is located in the North Elm Village Shopping Center.
If you have any cell phones that you no longer need, please donate them to the church. We can send these in to a company that recycles them and receive funds that go towards EYC funding.
We also host special fundraising events such as a mission trip spaghetti lunch, a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper and a bake sale at the annual Blessing of the Animals service.
Trips
We realize that something special happens when community is formed when we spend time together outside of Sunday nights. Sometimes this is through a lock-in or weekend trip. Events are being planned for the future and will allow us to deepen in our relationships with each other.
College Ministry
At St. Francis, just because a student may have graduated from high school doesn’t mean they are forgotten. We maintain a connection with the youth of St. Francis as they continue their education after high school. To keep this connection vibrant we have gatherings for college students when they are home on school breaks.
Another important way that we keep our college students connected is through our Franciscan Connection Program. In this program, parishioners "adopt" a student and contact them anonymously throughout the year, offering them support and care packages. It is a great way to remind the students that though they are not able to be physically with us each Sunday, they remain in our hearts and minds.
