Confirmation at St Francis is during the 7th grade year. It is a year long process that occurs during the normal Sunday School hour (9:15 – 10:15) in St. Mike's. There is a team of adult teachers for this class and they share teaching responsibilities on different weeks.
The group has a team building event at the first of the year, a retreat to Kanuga usually over Martin Luther King weekend, and a project geared toward giving something back to the church. This program has proven to be successful for the youth and for the teachers. We used this model when we made changes to our High School Sunday school.
Adult relationships are vital to an adolescent's development and can play a major role in your teen's life. The quote "It takes a village to raise a child" speaks directly to the responsibility of the church in your teen's journey to adulthood. Young people need a friend who is an adult that can model to them the Christian life and be a companion in the journey. Sponsors can be any active member of St. Francis.
We ask sponsors:
To commit to meet a minimum of three times a year, one-on-one with the teen.
To attend church together when possible.
To participate in the confirmation class service project as a resource.
It is the responsibility of the confirmand to choose a sponsor. Please secure a sponsor as soon as possible.
Fundraiser:
The Confirmation class of 08-09 is selling Holiday Wreaths and Garland as a fundraiser to support their service project in the Spring. Orders will be taken through Nov. 21 which will allow us time to place the order with the farm in Boone for pickup on the Saturday following Thanksgiving.
In addition to the money raised selling greenery, the Tree Farm will contribute 10% of each Christmas Tree purchased from their lot in Boone back to the Confirmation class.
